JavaScript imports a package successfully, but the app reports that its native module is unavailable. Restarting the JavaScript bundler does not add compiled native code to the installed application.

Why this happens

Expo Go includes a fixed set of native capabilities. A package requiring native code outside that set needs an appropriate development build.

Step-by-step solution

1. Check the package’s installation instructions and whether its native implementation is available in Expo Go.

2. Install the package using the version-selection approach recommended for the project’s Expo SDK. Configure any required plugin or native settings.

3. Create and install a new development build containing the module. Rebuild again when native dependencies or configuration change.

Worked example

A custom native SDK cannot become available through a JavaScript refresh alone. The installed app binary must include that SDK before the JavaScript layer can call it.

Verify the fix

Launch the newly installed build and exercise the smallest feature using the module. Confirm you are not accidentally reopening the old Expo Go session.

Prevent a repeat

Document which features require a development build and keep the native dependency list aligned with the JavaScript lockfile.
