A reader taps Add image after denying permission and nothing useful happens. The interface assumes permission will always be granted and provides no recovery path.

Why this happens

Media permissions vary by platform and operating-system version. Users can deny access, grant limited access or change their choice later in system settings.

Step-by-step solution

1. Use the image-picker API supported by the installed Expo version and inspect the returned permission state when permission is required.

2. Handle cancellation and limited access separately from an upload failure. Explain the purpose of access before requesting it.

3. When the platform indicates the app cannot ask again, provide a settings route and allow the user to continue without an attachment.

Worked example

A cancelled picker should simply return to the editor with the draft intact. It should not show Upload failed, because no upload was attempted.

Verify the fix

Test first use, denial, cancellation, limited access where available and permission changes in settings. Confirm the editor remains usable in every case.

Prevent a repeat

Request only the access the workflow needs and test on both target platforms. Keep permission descriptions accurate to the feature.
